Myrtle Lida Wigton, 103, of Petrolia passed away Wednesday at the Chicora Medical Center.

She was born March 4, 1909, in Cabot, the daughter of George W. and Lida Marie (Ekas) Watson.

Myrtle was a lifetime resident of the area and was a member of the Bruin United Methodist Church.

She married Charles E. Wigton on Nov. 28, 1934, and shared 56 years of marriage before his death in 1991.

Myrtle was a kind woman with a loving heart who especially enjoyed the company of her family and friends. Her caring nature was evident through her work as a day care worker for local families. She was an excellent baker and enjoyed eating out. Word searches and puzzles were some of her other favorite pastimes. Myrtle was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her sons, Donald Edward “Don” Wigton and his wife, Phyllis, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Charles Elmer “Buddy” Wigton and his wife, Jo Ann, of Florissant, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Charles E. Wigton, who died March 26, 1991; one grandchild, Tim Wigton; one brother, Harold Watson; and her sisters, Nora Freehling, Mary Smith, Carrie Ramsey, Irene Hughes, Hazel Bicker, Ida Hughes and Dorothy Frick.

WIGTON — Friends of Myrtle Lida Wigton, who died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 102 S. Argyle St., Petrolia.Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday with the Rev. Wade Berkey officiating.
