Lodbell tosses no-hitter as SRU softball earns split Friday

Emily Lodbell tossed a six-inning no-hitter to lead the Slippery Rock University softball team to a 9-0 victory over Bluefield State College Friday in the second game of the Shaw University Softball Challenge in Raleigh, N.C.

The Rock had dropped a 4-3 decision in eight innings in the opener against Ohio Valley.

Lodbell fanned eight batters and walked three while teammates Katie Kaiser had three hits, including a two-run homer, with three runs and three RBI.

Katie Saluga also homered and added two RBI, Breanna Tongel two RBI and Megan Maloney had two hits, two stolen bases and scored two runs.

Against Ohio Valley, the game was tied at 3 entering the eighth inning. With the international tiebreaker, teams start the frame with a runner on second base. Ohio Valley would use a sacrifice bunt to plate the winning run.

Tongel had a single and two RBI while Salunga and Kristin Kaminski had two hits and a run scored apiece.
