John W. 'Jack' Dodgson

John Dodgson

John W. “Jack” Dodgson passed away peacefully at 10:15 p.m. Friday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice with his wife of 54 years, Sandy, at his side. He was 79.

Jack was born and raised in Uniontown, Pa., the son of John and Ruth Madden Dodgson.

He graduated from Uniontown Senior High School in 1951. In 1954, he was drafted into the U.S. Army for two years, serving 18 months in northern Japan. After his discharge, he enrolled at the Robert Morris School of Accounting and graduated with the Class of 1958.

His work experience took him to the Crucible Steel Company of America and to the H.K. Porter Co. in Pittsburgh. In 1969, he came to the Castle Rubber Co. in Butler where he retired as treasurer/controller in 1992.

Jack was a member of the White Oak Springs Presbyterian Church were he served as auditor, trustee, usher and elder.

Surviving is his wife, Sandra Lee (Romesburg) Dodgson, who he met on the day of her high school graduation in 1956. They were married on Oct. 19, 1958.

He also is survived by three sons, David Dodgson and his wife, Patty, of West Sunbury, James Dodgson and his wife, Jayne, of West Sunbury and Daniel Dodgson of Butler; a daughter-in-law, Audra Dodgson of Butler; and dear friend, Denise Dodgson of Butler. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Alicia, Tyler, Sarah, Trevor, Kaitlyn, Noah, Matthew and Andrew; great-grandson, Cameron; and a special aunt-in-law, Ruth Romesburg and family of Harrisburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John Richard (Rick) Dodgson; and a sister, Betty Howard.

DODGSON — John W. “Jack” Dodgson passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2013. It was Jack's wishes to be cremated. A memorial service will be Saturday at the White Oak Springs Presbyterian Church, 102 Shannon Road, Renfrew, with the Rev. W. Lee Dreyer officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m. Saturday.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the White Oak Springs Presbyterian Church, 102 Shannon Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.Arrangements are entrusted to the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Butler.
