John L. Palmer, 83, of Zelienople went home to be with his Savior on Thursday while under the care of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Born Dec. 10, 1929, in Marion Township, he was the son of the late Shelley and Ruth (McKim Tucker) Palmer.

John was a loyal member of the Grace Church of Harmony for many years. He served his country in the Armed Forces. He worked for 40 years at US Steel.

He was revered as the “community gardener” and had the pleasure of working alongside his son for over 26 years at Lawnworks. John will be fondly remembered as the delivery driver. He was an avid Steelers and baseball fan. Above all, he was a true family man who cherished the time spent with his adored grandchildren.

He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 51 years, Sandra Joan (Stilson) Palmer, who he married Nov. 25, 1961; his four children, LuAnne White and her husband, Todd, of Zelienople, Christopher J. Palmer and his wife, Gerri, of New Sewickley Township, Todd A. Palmer of Zelienople and Sean A. Palmer of Harmony; his two brothers, Shelley Palmer and his wife, Darlene, of New Galilee and Thomas Palmer of Harmony; his four sisters, Judy Barnhart of Harmony, Juanita Eppinger and her husband, Richard, of Zelienople, Louise White of Harmony and Marie Glover of Michigan; and his six grandchildren, Whitney White, Macy White, Joshua White, Elijah White, Lydia Palmer and Christian Palmer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four sisters, Madaline Palmer, Lois Hart, Elizabeth Krchmar and Virginia Beight; and his brother, James Palmer.

PALMER — The family of John L. Palmer, who died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, will welcome friends from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.Additional visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of a funeral ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Grace Church of Harmony, 538 Main St., Harmony, with his son, the Rev.
