Numerous wrestlers place at weekend tournaments

The Knoch youth wrestling team participated in several different tournaments last weekend — including six first-place individual performances.

Results are as follows:

At the North Allegheny First-Year Only Tournament, Guy Leonardis captured the 12U, 95-pound division while Chase Martin finished second. Jon Martin finished in second place in the 12U, 90-pound division while Luke Priester (10U, 55-60) and Anthony Nicolazzo (6U, 55) both finished in third place.

At the United Novice Tournament, Christian Scheller (8U, 65) and Dustin Schlagel (10U, 110) both came away with first-place performances while at the Keystone Year-End 7-8 Division Tournament, Christian Scheller (8U, 65) and Gavin McGowan (8U, 60) placed first and third, respectively.

At the Keystone 9-10 Division, Matt Goodlin (85) and Eli Reese (80) both won the 10U division while Hunter Turner (90), Devin Whitacre (65) and Kyle Lauster (65) each placed third in the 10U division.

Elsewhere:

The Butler elementary wrestlers took part at the North Allegheny First-Year Tournament and Freedom Tournaments.

On Saturday, Logan Donnel captured the 12U, 80-to-85-pound classification.

Levi Donnel finished second (7U, 50) and Cooper Baxter was third (9U, 80) at the Freedom Odd Age Open Tournament on Saturday.

On Sunday at the Freedom Novice Tournament, Levi Donnel (8U, 50), Zach Slomers (10U, 95), Vance Jackson (10U, 55) and Logan Donnel (12U, 75-85) all came away with championship performances.

BasketballBen Drake had 10 points and four rebounds, Donovan Uber six points and Aaron Yeager added four rebounds, but First Baptist Elementary fell to Trinity Christian 43-20.The team also dropped a 41-6 decision to Hillcrest. Ashley Thompson had seven steals and Cole Miller added five rebounds for First Baptist.
