Farm-City Banquet set March 4

Punxsutawney Phil is predicting an early spring so what better way to get out and look ahead to spring than to visit with friends and neighbors at the 2013 Farm-City Banquet planned for March 4.

Along with all segments of our community, the farming community is also dealing with economic and environmental pressures on a daily basis along with other factors over which they have no control. Pennsylvania is a national leader in agricultural production, yet many residents don’t know what is produced in their own communities. The need for effective communications between all segments of the population is more important than ever.

Co-sponsored by Butler Rotary, the Butler County Conservation District, Penn State Extension, and cooperating agricultural agencies, the dinner will be held at the Unionville Fire Hall located just off Route 8 north of Butler. There will be light refreshments beginning at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Rodney Schaffer of ConYeager Spice Company will be the featured speaker. The program will also include the presentation of the annual “Bullshipper” award. In addition, this year’s program will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Penn State Extension in Butler County.

Prepaid registration is required. Reservations are $12 per person. Contact the Butler County Extension Office at 724-287-4761, Ext. 222, or the Butler County Conservation District at 724-284-5270. Reservation deadline is Feb. 25.
