Carol E. McClafferty

Carol E. McClafferty, 74, of Butler died Sunday afternoon at her home surrounded by her family following an extended illness.

She was born in Butler, on Nov. 12, 1938, a daughter of William and Mae Hollobaugh Burns Sr.

Carol had worked for Peoples Telephone Company in Butler as a toll operator. She was a lifelong active member of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler. She had been a Eucharistic minister there and also for patients at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She formerly was on the parish council. She also volunteered to be a camera operator for the daily Mass shown on television as well as taping ecumenical programs for broadcast on Channel 10. For a number of years, Carol was a tutor for the adult literacy classes at the Butler Public Library.

Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Ralph J. McClafferty Jr. They were married Nov. 24, 1956. Also surviving are two daughters and their spouses, Jean Lynn and Edward Grey of Butler and Patricia Ann ‘Trish’ and Keith Rose of Dutch Hill, Pa.; five grandchildren, Gabrealle (Bryan) Grey-Elder of Callensburg, Pa., Emily Grey of Butler, Edward Ralph (Amber) Grey of Herman, Tanner Rose of Pittsburgh and Casey Rose of Dutch Hill, Pa.; three great-grandchildren, Abbey, Luccey and Rexx; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, William F. Jr., Bernard, Raymond, Charles, Roy and Donald Burns; and two sisters, Edith McQuistion and Jean McCoy.

MCCLAFFERTY — Friends of Carol E. McClafferty, who died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, will be received at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. The Rev. Harry Bielewicz, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.

St. Paul’s Catholic Women and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday at the church to recite the rosary.

Memorial donations may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.
