John E. Murphy, 55, of Grove City, formerly of Harrisville and Slippery Rock, died at 10:03 p.m. Monday at UPMC-Montefiore, Pittsburgh, following an extended illness.

He was born in Baltimore, Md., on July 30, 1957, to Robert D. Murphy Sr. and Loretta Hunter Murphy.

He was self-employed most of his life. He formerly owned the Murphy Auto Care on Franklin Street in Slippery Rock, which he operated from 1988 till 2009.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Lodge 1895, Grove City, and the F.&A.M. Lodge 603, Grove City.

Surviving are his fiancee, Connie S. Breese of Grove City; two children, Mike Murphy of Utica, Pa., and Jackie Thiry of Harrisville; one sister, Carol Humphrey and her husband, Robert, of St. Cloud, Fla.; and one brother, Robert D. Murphy Jr. of Pittsburgh.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

MURPHY — Family services are private for John E. Murphy, who died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012. Burial will be in Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.Arrangements are by the Cunningham Funeral Home, Grove City.Donations in John's memory can be made to the American Liver Foundation, 100 W.
