STATE COLLEGE — Penn State got the boot from Virginia's 2013 schedule.
Virginia was supposed to visit Beaver Stadium on Sept. 14, the return trip after the Nittany Lions lost 17-16 in Charlottesville last September.
But Penn State athletic director Dave Joyner said Monday in a statement that Virginia informed the Nittany Lions it wouldn't be visiting Happy Valley in order to play a home game, and that he hoped to find a replacement soon.
ASPEN, Colo. — Snowmobile rider Caleb Moore remains in critical condition after a crash at the Winter X Games in Aspen and is being closely monitored.His family thanked Moore's fans for their support Monday and asked for their prayers.The 25-year-old was performing a flip Thursday when he clipped the top of a jump and went over the handlebars. The snowmobile rolled over him, but he walked off the course with help and went to a hospital with a concussion.While there, he developed bleeding around his heart and was flown to Grand Junction for surgery Friday. His family said Sunday that Moore then had a secondary complication involving his brain. They didn't provide details.Moore's younger brother, Colten, also crashed in the competition and sustained a separated pelvis.
NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Saints spokesman Greg Bensel says general manager Mickey Loomis has a contract that runs through 2017.Bensel says Loomis agreed to the deal last August but the team chose not to discuss it publicly until Monday, when the subject came up during media events connected to the Super Bowl. The game will be played in New Orleans this Sunday.The length of Loomis' current contract mirrors that of head coach Sean Payton, who agreed to his new contract late last month. He returned to work last week after serving a full-season suspension in connection with the NFL's bounty probe of the Saints.
MONTREAL — Defenseman P.K. Subban signed a two-year, $5.75 million contract with the Montreal Canadiens on Monday.Subban, who was a restricted free agent, will be paid a prorated $2 million this season and $3.75 million in 2013-14 for an annual salary cap hit of $2.875 million.
