Butler City Council on Thursday:
✓ Approved payment of $32,213, proceeds of the city’s 2012 library tax, to the Butler Public Library.
✓ Designated Art Cordwell as the city’s fair housing officer for 2013.
✓ Awarded the demolition of 522 W. Brady Street to A.P. Wise Excavating for $6,990, pending release by the city solicitor.
✓ Agreed to comply with the Butler County Parks Renovation Program requirements to receive grant funds for renovation of Whippo Avenue playground.
✓ Accepted a gas pipeline agreement with Phillips TWP allowing the utility to replace a gas line running through Ritts Park for $2,282.
✓ Amended a city ordinance to add a first deputy to the treasurer position. Treasurer Jeff Smith explained the ordinance includes provisions for such a position, which merely empowers an existing treasurer’s office employee to do certain duties, currently permissible only by the treasurer, in the treasurer’s absence.
✓ Granted permanent employment status to Patrol Officer Nathan Shulik
✓ Directed the city clerk to advertise for bids to buy two or three police cruisers. The amount of the bids will determine how many cars are purchased.
