The Butler County Symphony Orchestra will present an evening of music from Russian composers at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.
The guest artist will be composer and saxophonist Arthur Black, a 2006 Knoch High School graduate who lives in Chicago where he teaches saxophone and performs in a variety of ensembles.
Tickets are $18 in advance or $20 at the door. Student tickets are $5. Tickets are available at the symphony office, 259 S. Main St., or by calling 724-283-1402.
Registration deadline is Feb. 9 for a “Planning and Planting a Garden of Your Own” program set for 2 to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township.The workshop is recommended for participants age 16 and older. GROVE CITY — Holly Boyce of Butler will be one of the Grove City College students performing in the Pittsburgh Symphony Pops All-Star College Chorus at Heinz Hall, 600 Penn Ave., at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 7, 8 p.m. Feb. 8 and 9, and 2:30 p.m. Feb. 10.Additionally, the PSO and student chorus will join for a Marvin Hamlisch tribute concert at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29.
CRANBERRY TWP — A new adults-only drawing class offered by the Associated Artists of Butler County will be conducted in 2½ hour sessions for six weeks starting Feb. 6 at the at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center.The class will emphasize ways to apply perception and the creative process, together with a technical focus on the use of light, texture, color and composition, in creating original images on paper.Cranberry’s Parks and Recreation Department will accept registration for the class beginning Monday.
