Loisdene T. Smith

Loisdene T. Smith, 84, of Foley, Ala., formerly of Butler, passed away Dec. 3 at her home.

She was born Jan. 23, 1928, in Detroit, Mich., to Clyde J. and Minnie Lee Utterback Towery, both of whom preceded her in death.

On Sept. 23, 1952, in Hagerstown, Md., she married her childhood friend William C. Smith, who survives in Foley.

Lois is also survived by her sons, Randall C. (Susan) Smith of Valparaiso, Ind., Ralph D. (Cheryl) Smith of Jamestown, N.Y., and Owen V. (Vicki) Smith of Chesterton, Ind.; one daughter-in-law, Sally Snyder of Kittanning; her grandchildren, Kerri, Ryan, Matthew, Charles, Clayton, Allison and Cameron; and six great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her son, Richard L. Smith; her grandson, Jimmy Smith; and her brother, Clyde D. Towery.

She worked for Faircraft Engineering and Manley Brothers as a secretary. Lois was secretary to the Superintendent of the Locks Division in the Panama Canal Zone. She grew up in Panama where she met her childhood friend and future husband.

SMITH — Graveside services for Loisdene T. Smith, who died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, will be at the Chesterton Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be given in Lois’ name to her family and they will determine the organization at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton, Ind.
