Teens, child hurt in vehicle crash

FAIRVIEW TWP — Medical helicopters flew two teenagers to a Pittsburgh hospital following a two-vehicle crash Sunday night at Buena Vista and Cherry roads, authorities said.

A young child also was hurt in the same broadside collision and taken to a Butler County hospital.

Taylor M. Birckbichler, 18, of Butler, one of the drivers, and her passenger, a 14-year-old Butler boy who police did not identify, were flown to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.

A state police report described the boy’s injuries as “severe” and Birckbichler’s injuries as “moderate.” Their conditions were not known this morning.

A 4-year-old Hilliards girl riding in the other vehicle was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. She was not identified.

Police said Birckbichler was driving south on Buena Vista Road about 9:45 p.m. when her 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier collided with a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Ricky L. Stroup, 36, of Hilliards that was eastbound on Cherry Road. Stroup was not injured.

Chicora volunteer firefighters and ambulance crews from Chicora, Petrolia and Butler Ambulance assisted police at the scene. The road was closed for about two hours.

The crash investigation continues, police said.
