Moraine State Park hosts Winterfest! from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at McDanel's Launch on the North Shore. Many free winter activities will be offered at this third annual event, including, as weather allows, snowshoeing, dog sleds, music, a chili cook-off, ice skating, cross-country skiing, children's activities, refreshments and ice fishing. For nformation, or to register for the chili cook-off, visit www.morainepreservationfund.org. Moraine also has winter recreation available from sunrise to sunset daily. A sled riding area complete with woodstove is near Pleasant View picnic area on the South Shore. The Pleasant Valley and Sunken Garden trails are groomed for up to 6 miles of cross-country skiing when weather permits. Snowshoes may be borrowed at the South Shore office on weekdays.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, will be the site of FrogWatch USA volunteer training from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 26. The registration deadline for the program is Jan. 24. Staff from the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium will teach participants how to monitor local frog and toad populations. Registration is required by sending e-mail to frogwatch@pittsburghzoo.org. Also, registration for a Feb. 2 program on eastern bluebirds and other cavity nesters ends Saturday. Call 724-794-6011.

Crooked Creek Environmental Learning Center, 142 Kerr Road, Ford City, will host the annual Winter Wonderland Walk at 2 p.m. Jan. 27. After the walk, hot cider and chili will be offered. The event is free but donations are suggested. Call 724-763-6316.
