Moraine State Park will be the site of Winterfest! from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 19 at McDanel’s Launch on the North Shore. Many free winter activities will be offered at this third annual event, including, as weather allows, snowshoeing, dog sleds, music, a chili cook-off, ice skating, cross-country skiing, children’s activities, refreshments and ice fishing. For information, or to register for the chili cook-off, visit www.morainepreservationfund.org. Moraine also has winter recreation available from sunrise to sunset daily. A sled riding area complete with woodstove is near Pleasant View picnic area on the South Shore. The Pleasant Valley and Sunken Garden trails are groomed for up to 6 miles of cross-country skiing when weather permits. Snowshoes may be borrowed at the South Shore office on weekdays.
