ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — David Price got a hefty raise for winning the AL Cy Young Award.

A person with knowledge of the deal said Tuesday night that the three-time All-Star and the Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to a one-year contract worth just over $10 million, avoiding arbitration.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not yet made a formal announcement. Price earned $4.35 million last season, when he went 20-5 with an American League-low 2.56 ERA.

The hard-throwing left-hander barely beat out Detroit’s Justin Verlander to become Tampa Bay’s first Cy Young winner. He tied Jered Weaver for the league lead in wins and winning percentage and was sixth in strikeouts with 205.

Indians, Myers strike 1-year dealCLEVELAND — The Cleveland Indians have agreed to terms with free agent right-hander Brett Myers on a one-year contract.Myers, who pitched for Houston and the Chicago White Sox last season, will get a chance to win a spot in Cleveland’s starting rotation. His deal with the Indians includes a club option for 2014. It will not be finalized until he passes a physical.Myers went 3-4 with a 3.14 ERA in 35 relief appearances with the White Sox, who acquired him in a July trade with the Astros. The 32-year-old was 0-4 last season with a 3.52 ERA in 35 games for Houston.

Cardinals interview Horton for coachPHOENIX — The Arizona Cardinals have interviewed their defensive coordinator Ray Horton for the head coaching job.The interview, conducted on Tuesday by team president Michael Bidwill, was the first in the team’s search for a replacement for Ken Whisenhunt, who was fired on Monday after six seasons on the job.The team has reached out to Andy Reid but had not scheduled an interview. Reid was fired on Monday after 14 seasons as head coach in Philadelphia.

Woodson cleared to play for PackersGREEN BAY, Wis. — Charles Woodson has been cleared to play again, and the Green Bay Packers are counting on the defensive back to provide a lift in Saturday night’s playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings.Woodson deferred to team physician Dr. Pat McKenzie and gave his broken collarbone as much time to heal as possible, sitting out Sunday’s regular-season finale at Minnesota. He was injured on Oct. 21 and has missed nine consecutive games.But now that the Packers are in win-or-go-home mode, Woodson is back.

FSU CB Rhodes plans to turn proMIAMI — Florida State cornerback Xavier Rhodes says he’ll forgo his senior season and turn pro this year.Rhodes made the announcement Tuesday after the Seminoles’ 31-10 victory over Northern Illinois in the Orange Bowl. Coach Jimbo Fisher predicted the converted wide receiver, considered a potential first-round draft pick, will thrive in the NFL.
