Sam Sita

Samuel J. Sita, 80, of Chicora died at 7:50 a.m. Monday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an illness.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran who honorably and proudly served our country from Nov. 12, 1952, to Nov. 9, 1956, during the Korean War. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal.

Sam worked at INDSPEC, Petrolia, retiring in 1992 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, Chicora, and the Altar-Rosary Society of the church. He also was a member of the Chicora VFW and enjoyed many sports, including football, baseball, and basketball; and gardening.

He was born in East Brady, Feb. 24, 1932, and was the son of the late Guiseppe Sita and Annie Infantino Sita.

He married Alice Zanella Claypoole Sita on Oct. 17, 1959. She passed away Nov. 10, 2011.

Surviving are his son, Joseph Sita of Chicora; his daughters, Judy and Allan Smith of Rochester, N.Y., Patti Congialosi of Rochester, N.Y., and Helen Bacher of Butler; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul and Rosemarie Sita of Corry; sisters, Theresa and Carmen Silvo of Shippenville, Clarion County, Rose Scwabenbauer of Olean, N.Y., and Mary Lascuola of Butler; brother-in-law, Robert and his wife, Joyce, Zanella of Chicora; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, John Claypoole, and brothers, Dominic Sita, Joseph Sita and Michael Sita.

SITA — Friends of Samuel J. Sita, who died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora.A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, and celebrated by the Rev. Joseph P. Pudichery.Interment will follow immediately in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora, with full military honors provided by the Chicora VFW, the Chicora American Legion, Brady's Bend American Legion and the 99th Readiness Command of Pittsburgh.For information and directions, and to extend condolences to Sam's family, go to www.steighnerfuneralhome.com.
