Thomas L. Shaffer

Thomas Loyal Shaffer, 49, of Slippery Rock, Worth Township, Butler County, passed away suddenly on State Route 422, Muddy Creek Township, Butler County, due to a motorcycle accident about 6 p.m. Sunday.

He was born in New Castle on Feb. 6, 1963, to H. Loyal Shaffer and B. Berneice Houston Shaffer. He married Michele Rene Brethauer on Aug. 8, 1987.

He was a sheet metal worker for Local 12 out of Pittsburgh. He owned and operated Shaffer Excavating. He was a member of the Unity Baptist Church, Harlansburg, where he served as a trustee.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, riding dirt bikes and motorcycles, conversing with his family and friends, working on vehicles and going to the beach.

He was a people person with a big smile and a great sense of humor, with a love of flea markets, Craig's List and his blue heeler dogs.

His survivors include his wife, Michele R. Shaffer; two daughters, Andrea Rae Shaffer and Katie Elizabeth Shaffer, and a son, Luke Thomas Shaffer, all at home; a sister, Janet L. and her husband, Mark, McClymonds of Portersville; his mother, Berneice Shaffer of Portersville; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father.

SHAFFER — Funeral services for Thomas Loyal Shaffer, who died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, will be at the Unity Baptist Church, 304 Old Route 19, (Harlansburg), New Castle, at 11 a.m. Friday. Pastor Zachary Charles Dudenhofer, pastor of the Unity Baptist Church, and Pastor Jerry Caskey, former pastor of the Unity Baptist Church, will preside. Family and friends will be received at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation also will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Friday at the Unity Baptist Church in Harlansburg. Interment will follow at Unity Baptist Cemetery, Harlansburg.
