Fire damages house in Center Township
CENTER TWP — The state police fire marshal is investigating a fire that destroyed a garage and damaged a house Monday night on Spring Run Road.
The husband and wife escaped uninjured from their brick, ranch-style home at 198 Spring Run Road, said Chief Greg Brewster of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Company.
“The fire started in the garage and spread toward the house,” Brewster said.
“The garage was a total loss and (so was) about half the house.”
Brewster said the detached garage, which was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters responded to the 9:46 p.m. emergency call, was about 10 feet from the house, but the house ignited from the fire’s heat.
A nearby home had minor damage to its siding.
Unionville was assisted by firefighters from the West Sunbury and Oneida Valley departments and Butler Ambulance Service.
Brewster said firefighters were on the scene past 1 a.m. today putting out hot spots.
He thinks the homeowners were insured.
