C. Floyd Gardner, 92, of New Wilmington passed away Monday at the Overlook Medical Center, New Wilmington.

Mr. Gardner was born Aug. 2, 1920, and was a lifelong resident of Lawrence County.

He graduated from Harlansburg High School in 1938. He was in the U.S. Army during the World War II era, serving in the military police. In the late 1930s and early 1940s, he worked for Eastern States Farm Co-op and Shenango China. In the later 1940s and the 1950s, he did custom harvesting and silo filling for neighbors near the family farm. Mr. Gardner, his brother and his sister in Scott Township managed a successful poultry and beef business as a partnership. He worked for Slippery Rock University in the steam production plant for a 12-year period in the 1970s and 1980s. He also lived in Wilmington Township for 20 years after they sold the family farm. Recently, he was a resident at Beechwood Commons, New Wilmington.

Floyd loved high school and college basketball and attended hundreds of games. He also attended local auctions most weekends after retirement.

He was a lifelong member of the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church and also a member of the Plain Grove Grange.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence F. and Clara Young Gardner; a brother, Edwin Gardner; and sisters, Blanche G. Hoye and Ruth Gardner.

He is survived by two nephews and a niece, Clarence (Margie) Hoye, Lois (John) McConnell and Don (Edy) Hoye; and a brother-in-law, John C. Hoye. A number of grand and great-grandnieces and nephews complete his immediate family.

GARDNER — Services for C. Floyd Gardner, who passed away Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, will be at the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Dr. Stan Keehlwetter, interim pastor of the church, officiating.Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment will be in South Plain Grove Cemetery, Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County.Memorial contributions may be made to the New Castle City Rescue Mission, 319 S. Croton Ave., New Castle, PA 16101, or the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, 626 Plain Grove Road, Slippery Rock, PA 16057.Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington.
