Donald P. McLaughlin, 78, of Butler died Tuesday at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Butler, May 28, 1934, a son of the late James and Alice Pew McLaughlin Gray.

Don worked at Pullman Standard until the plant closed. He then was employed as a furniture deliveryman for Montgomery Wards store in Butler and later in the shipping and receiving department of Bon-Ton Department Store. For many years, along with his family members, he helped operate the former Majestic Bar on Cunningham Street in Butler.

A veteran of the Korean War, he had served with the U.S. Army Artillery and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge in Korea. He was a member of VFW Post 249, Butler, and a member of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler and the French and Belgium Club.

He is survived by his wife, Irene J. Popp McLaughlin; a daughter, Alice Boyle and her husband, Larry, of Sarver; one granddaughter, Jamie Boyle, a student at Penn State Behrend College in Erie; one brother, William (Audrey) McLaughlin, and one sister, Charity Ann Kemper, all of Butler; and two half-sisters, Joyce Stevens and Betty Jane Baptiste.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John “Pump” McLaughlin, Bob and Jim McLaughlin; a half-sister, Mary Catherine Mulneix; and his stepfather, Bert Gray.

MCLAUGHLIN — Friends of Donald P. McLaughlin, who died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday. Funeral services will follow at noon at the funeral home, and the Rev. Kevin Fazio of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church will officiate.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
