Butler County will continue to have jury commissioners.

The county commissioners this morning voted to keep the two elected jury commissioner posts.

Under state law, county commissioners have the right to abolish jury commissioner posts.

Commissioners Bill McCarrier and Jim Eckstein agreed that the duties of jury commissioners, who oversee the selection of jury pools, should stay in the hands of elected officials.

Commissioner Dale Pinkerton proposed the elimination of the posts as a cost-saving measure because county court administration staff could absorb the duties.
