Helen Riddle

Helen Jane Riddle, 75, of Sarver passed away Sunday at her home.

Born Oct. 25, 1936, in Freeport, South Buffalo Township, Armstrong County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Albion Beale and Elizabeth (Hazlett) Beale.

Helen was a 1954 graduate of Freeport High School. At 16, she worked for Thompson's Drug Store in Freeport. She then went on to work at the North Pittsburgh Telephone Co. She retired after 30 years from the Butler County Mushroom Mine, where she worked in the spawn lab. Helen and her husband have owned and operated Riddle's Used Machinery for more than 50 years.

She taught Sunday school at the Buffalo Presbyterian Church and also was active in the time release religious education program. Helen was a member of the Lighthouse Fellowship Church. She enjoyed cooking, her dogs, cats and horses.

Surviving are her loving husband, James S. Riddle, who she married June 30, 1956, and her brother, Paul (Donna) Beale of Freeport. Helen fostered more than 100 boys, including Shawn Patrick Bowers, Leon Donald Gordon and Eric Calvin Lydic.

RIDDLE — Friends of Helen Jane Riddle, who passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Fox Funeral Home, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lighthouse Fellowship Church, Sarver, with the Rev. Richard L. Shick officiating.
