Harold D. 'Pete' Nevel

Harold D. “Pete” Nevel, 77, of Stone Church Road, Emlenton, passed away early Saturday morning at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Nevel was born in St. Petersburg, on Dec. 31, 1934. He was the son of Harold E. and Margaret I. Ketner Nevel.

Pete was employed for nearly 40 years with railroads, having worked for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and the Chessie System and then retiring from CXS in 1994.

He was a member of the Scrubgrass Stone Church in Emlenton. Pete enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting with his grandchildren, and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. McNany Nevel; four children, Jeffrey C. Nevel and his wife, Lori, of Pittsburgh, Mark A. Nevel and his wife, Jamie, of Emlenton, Kathy Eiler of Idaho, and Denise Blanchard and her husband, Marshall, of Washington state; and three grandchildren, Ethan R. Nevel, Nicole M. Nevel and Eric D. Ahrens. Among his other survivors are five sisters; his mother-in-law, Sara McNany; and a number of other grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and his father-in-law.
