Violet O. Hooks-Ruffner

Violet Orlina (Bowser) Hooks-Ruffner of Worthington died Sunday at ACMH.

She was born Oct. 29, 1927, in Kittanning, the daughter of Lee W. Bowser and Mary V. (Slagle) Bowser, who are deceased.

Violet was a member of the Brush Valley Brethren Church in Adrian.

She retired from Moonlight Mushrooms. Violet also worked at H.J. Heinz Co., Pittsburgh; G.C. Murphy, Kittanning; Bobbie Brooks, Butler; and the PPG store, Kittanning.

Violet enjoyed going to Bible study and to the Women's Missionary Group. She also enjoyed crocheting, camping, traveling, sewing and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Violet is survived by her son, Herbert D. Hooks (Betty) of Templeton, her daughter Prudence (John) Burke of Worthington and her son Amos (Linda) Hooks of Hadley; her grandchildren, Gidget (John) Kidder, Tonya (Tony) Little, Kimberly (Tim) Claypoole, Herb (Mary Lou) Hooks, Theresa (John) Ceremuga, Amy (Mike Peterson) Ceremuga and Barbara (Lance) Hearn; and her stepgranchildren, George (Lorie) Kilgore, Joe Kilgore, John Kilgore and Charles (Wendy) Swartz.

Her great-grandchildren who survive her are Allison, Alecia and Megan Kidder; Jonathan, Abigail, Andrew and Anna Rose Little; Stephanie, Tori and Andrew Claypoole; Megan Lowry; Jenna, Nikki and Emily Hooks; Brian Hooks; Stephan Ceremuga; Serrenah and Pereston Peterson; Jessica, Madelyn and Brevyn Ceremuga; Peyton and Collin Hearn; Stephanie, Beth Ann and Samantha Kilgore; and Olivia Swartz.

Violet also is survived by her sister, Florence Goodgasell of Michigan; her brother, Leslie D. (Betty) Bowser of Michigan; her brother-in-law, Harky Dias of Michigan; and her sister-in-law, Joanne Potkalitsky of Kittanning.

In addition, her lifetime friend, Alene Crouch, survives her, as do numerous nieces and nephews.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Ivan J. Hooks, her second husband, Lee Ruffner, and by her friend, Paul Sims, as well as by her brothers Loran, Richard, Andrew, Floyd, Jack and Finley Bowser and her sisters Sylvia Wolfe, Jean Fryling and Phyllis Dias.

HOOKS-RUFFNER—Friends of Violet Orlina Hooks-Ruffner, who died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the F. DUANE SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 119 Bear St., Worthington, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Brush Valley Brethren Church in Adrian. The Rev. Wesley Lewis and the Rev. Vincent Edwin will co-officiate.Interment will follow in Brush Valley Cemetery.
