Robert L. 'Rags' McGinley

Robert L. “Rags” McGinley, 67, of Renfrew passed away Monday evening at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler, after a seven and a half year battle with colon cancer.

Born in Butler, on June 9, 1945, he was the son of the late Robert H. and Annabele Shannon McGinley.

He was a member of White Oak Springs Presbyterian Church, Renfrew.

He retired from Armco in the maintenance department of the melt shop after 32 years.

He also operated McGinley Engine Service.

Rags adored his grandchildren, loved to watch them play sports and attended their dance recitals. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and especially camping at Treasure Lake. He read and did crossword puzzles and he liked NASCAR and traveling. Rags enjoyed having breakfast on Thursdays, which was called the Hunkie Breakfast, and with the other morning breakfast club. He also enjoyed watching Western movies and “Gunsmoke.”

He was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Ann Reismeyer Jackman.

He is survived by his wife, Linda S. Rice McGinley, who he married Nov. 15, 1965; two daughters, Melissa (Denny) Troyan of East Butler and Molly (Jeff) Hilliard of Brees Port, N.Y.; grandchildren Taylor and Mackenzie Troyan and Levi and Cameron Hilliard; and his niece and nephew, Teresa Riesmeyer of Pittsburgh and Michael Riesmeyer of Butler. He also is survived by his dog, Max, who was his faithful friend and companion.

MCGINLEY — Friends and relatives of Robert L. “Rags” McGinley, who died Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, will be received at A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Evans City, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
