The sites and times have been announced for WPIAL soccer championship games Saturday involving Mars and Seneca Valley teams.

The Planets will play a Class AA doubleheader at Chartiers Valley. Mars girls play Moon at 4:30 p.m., followed by the boys game against Quaker Valley at 6:45 p.m.

Seneca Valley's girls play Peters Township at 4:30 p.m. at Elizabeth Forward.

Moniteau football finale scratched

The Moniteau football team's last game of the season, scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at Brockway, has been canceled.

The Rovers (8-1) will meet Port Allegany (9-0) at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Allegheny Mountain League title game.

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. — Lily Grenci, a Mars High graduate and a senior forward on the Siena College women's basketball team, has been selected as a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award.She is one of 30 candidates in their respective sports and is the first Siena College female athlete to receive the accomplishment.The honor — Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School — must have notable achievements in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition.Candidates will be narrowed down to 10 men's and 10 women's finalists midway through the regular season and placed on ballots. The winners will be announced during the NCAA Final Four Tournament in April.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University head baseball coach Jeff Messer has been elected the fourth vice president of the American Baseball Coaches Association.Messer, who will begin his 28th season as The Rock head coach, will assume his new role in early January, at the conclusion of the ABCA's national convention in Chicago.Messer will become the ABCA's president in 2017.
