Roy H. Kunkle

Roy H. Kunkle, 81, of Coaldale died Sept. 23 at St Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital in Coaldale.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred I. (Purviance) Kunkle on Sept. 7, 2009.

He had previously been employed by the South Butler School District.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Roy was a graduate of Freeport High School, and he was a member of the VFW and the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Department as an emergency medical technician.

Born in Lower Burrell, he was the son of the late Claude Kunkle and the late Ruby (Hawk) Kunkle.

He is survived by his three daughters, Karry Houser, Karen Christian and Patricia Hovis; one son, Roy Kunkle Jr.; two sisters, Faye Toy and Irene Hannum; two brothers, Harold and Robert Kunkle; and four grandchildren, Destiny Gurner, Dylan Gurner, Jada Houser and William Hovis.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert “Doc” Kunkle.
