William 'Bill' Hammer

William Hammer

William “Bill” Hammer, 77, of PGA Village, St. Lucie County, Fla., passed away Monday at his home. He was the husband of Pamela J. Loeffler-Hammer, formerly of Butler.

Bill was born in Mt. Ephraim, N.J., and later lived in Voorhees, N.J. He lived in Martin and St. Lucie counties, Fla., for the past 14 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, taught at Pennsauken High School, New Jersey, and Temple University and worked with the New Jersey Education Association, followed by 30 years with the National Education Association in Washington, D.C.

He loved fishing and riding his bike, volunteered as a senior tax preparer with AARP, served on the St. Lucie County Citizens' Budget Committee and was involved with the Committee for a Sustainable Treasure Coast.

Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Pamela J. Hammer; daughter, Kathleen Marlowe and grandson Justin Marlowe of Voorhees, N.J.; father-in-law, Bernard Loeffler; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Kathy Loeffler, Marilyn Loeffler, Mike and Sue Piazza and Ron and Sally Senger; eight nephews and nieces; and twin great-nieces.

HAMMER — Friends of William “Bill” Hammer, who passed away Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Forest Hills-Byrd, Young & Prill Funeral Home, 1170 S.W. Bayshore Blvd., Port St. Lucie, Fla. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.A private burial will follow at White City Cemetery in Ft. Pierce, Fla.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bill's name to the All Villages Presbyterian Church, Building Fund, 1550 S.W.
