Mary M. Schwab

Mary M. Schwab, 92, of Mars entered her eternal rest on Friday evening.

Born in Mars on May 10, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Grace Springer and Charles H. Schwab.

Mary was the seventh of eight children and lived her entire life on the family homestead, “Oak Lawn.” Five huge oak trees of the original 10 still stand.

She was a 1938 graduate of Mars High School, where she studied the commercial course. After working for a few years, she attended Waynesboro, a Presbyterian college, to study Christian education.

A member of the Mars United Presbyterian Church, Mary was a Sunday school teacher of elementary girls for many decades and acted as a counselor for their rural church camps.

During Grove City College Summer Conferences, she also served as a counselor for the teenagers.

Mary was a bookkeeper at the Treesdale Farms' office, working for her brother-in-law, Raymond Reiter.

In the late 1980s, she and her sister, Kathryn Kramer, toured the Holy Land, which had been a lifelong dream of hers. They returned through Germany, the origin of the Schwab family.

Mary was a generous person and a gracious hostess for her 21 nieces and nephews, 35 grandnieces and nephews and 33 great- grandnieces and nephews. She always gave them an example of living a joyful and contented Christian life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Zarra Schwab, Anna Reiter and Kathryn Kramer; and her brothers, Doyle, Paul, Kermit and Wayne.

SCHWAB — Friends of Mary M. Schwab, who passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21.Services will be at the Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave., Mars, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, with the Rev. Nathan Esser, pastor, officiating. A luncheon will follow the service.Burial will be in Mars Cemetery, Adams Township.Memorials may be made to the Mars United Presbyterian Church, P.O.
