David A. Tonya

Tonya

David A Tonya, 56, of Templeton, formerly of Connoquenessing, passed away Thursday after a courageous, hard fought, seven-year battle with cancer.

Born May 29, 1956, in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the son of Joseph and Ann (Crnarich) Tonya of Poland, Ohio.

He was a member of the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, Meridian.

Dave graduated from Springfield Local High School and the Mahoning County Career and Technical School in 1974. He managed Bear Ridge Campground in Templeton and was a realtor for Northwood Realty with his wife, Judy.

He was an avid snowmobiler, loved traveling, selling Christmas trees and going to the Casino. Dave also played in a polka band with his brother in the 1970s.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Schubert Tonya, who he married Aug. 17, 1991; his parents; his children, Brandon at home, Justin (Amber) Tonya of Monaca and Mary Louise (Santana) Crespo of Poland, Ohio; a sister, Cathy Kalentis of Poland, Ohio; a brother, Steve (Linda) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Mikayla, Jackson and Jonathan Tonya and Ava, Zoe, and Gia Crespo; a brother-in-law, Rick (Paulette) Schubert of Prospect; sister-in-law, Breeze (Frank) Menchyk of Connoquenessing; nieces, Lauren, Holly, and Alicia; and nephew, T.J. He also leaves his Bear Ridge family and his constant companion and beloved dog, Scooter.

TONYA — A gathering of relatives and friends of David A Tonya, who passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, will be at A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Evans City, from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Fidells Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Meridian.
