Scoop bounces back well
Now that’s what I call a bounce-back week.
After a less-than-stellar Week 2, Sir Scoopalot went 10-1 last week.
The only game I missed was Butler’s win over Pine-Richland. For whatever reason, the Golden Tornado and I have gotten off on the wrong talon.
More on that later.
This week, there are some interesting games on the docket.
There are a few match-ups that could go either way. But I’m ready for the challenge.
On to the picks:
• North Hills 17, Butler 15 — Yes, I am picking those feisty Golden Tornado gridders to lose ... again.
One of the reasons I am picking against the Tornado (again) is because they haven’t had much luck at North Hills in recent history.
Butler will give them a game, but the Indians will come out on top.
• Seneca Valley 41, Connellsville 20 — I feel for Connellsville. The Falcons are facing the Raiders at a really bad time.
Seneca Valley is smarting following a 45-3 drubbing at the hands of North Allegheny and is looking for someone to take out its frustrations on.
Guess what, Connellsville? You’re it.
• Knoch 30, Hollidaysburg 16 — Ben “T.D.” Tackett will have a little harder time finding the end zone this week. He’s only getting two.
• Mars 30, Highlands 9 — The Planets had a sloppy win last week, but I doubt coach Scott Heinauer will allow two uneven performances in a row.
• Freeport 37, Valley 7 — The Yellowjackets are quietly putting together a fantastic season. The defense has been stout and the offense is doubly deadly with quarterback Brendan Lynch and running back Damon Smith.
Slippery Rock 28, Bradford 12 — The defense got takeaways last week. This is a solid, all-around Slippery Rock team that appears destined to win the region.
• Karns City 21, Union 19 — The last time Union was 3-0, Marty McFly was climbing into a DeLorean and going “Back to the Future.”
That would be 1985. It’s probably been that long since a Karns City-Union game was in doubt before the coin flip like this one is.
• Clarion 36, Moniteau 13 — The Warriors put up a fight against Karns City last week. They are getting better.
Bad news is Clarion is loaded.
• A-C Valley 22, Punxsutawney 18 — Who needs the Cranberry co-op?
Grove City 22, Hickory 8 — The Eagles have given up just 13 points this season. The Hornets are averaging 35 points per game, but only 86 yards of offense.
• Summit Academy 21, Kittanning 20 — The Knights are always a tough team to gauge.
Almost every player is new. It’s hard to tell what kind of team it is going to be until about Week 3.
The Knights may not win every game, but they will be in it until the end.
Scoop doesn’t care if he gets knocked down while taking a knee in the victory formation.
