John A. Bopp Sr., 85, of Butler passed away Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.

Born in Butler on July 31, 1927, he was the son of the late John A. and Pauline Valentine Bopp.

He was employed for 45 years as a truck driver for Marmon Keystone.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.

One of John's favorite pastimes was spending Saturday mornings with his son-in-law, Joe, and going to breakfast and shopping.

John was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and the French and Belgium Club.

He is survived by his children, Barbara Yadesky and her husband, Joseph, of Butler, Grace Merrill of Florida, Raymond “Jasper” Bopp of Butler, Charles Bopp and his wife, Betty, of Butler, John A. Bopp Jr. and his wife, Sharon, of Butler, Kathy Campbell and her husband, James, of Butler, Paul Bopp and his wife, Connie, of Butler, Lucy Niggel of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Tammy Desmond and her husband, Edward, of Butler; one daughter-in-law, Dianne Neal of West Sunbury; two brothers, Richard Bopp and his wife, Patricia, of Meridian and Regis Bopp and his wife, Donna, of Butler; two sisters, Patricia Burns and her husband, William, of Butler and Carolyn Malinak of Butler; 19 grandchildren, Shawna, Lindsey, Stacey, Paula, John, Jeff, Scott, Tanya, Adam, Katie, Nathan, Coleen, Leah, Chelsea, Courtney, Corey, James, Darius and Kendra; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace V. Brothers Bopp, who passed away March 24, 2008; two brothers, George Bopp and Joseph Bopp; and two sisters, Mary Louise Cornibe and Dolores Erkman.

BOPP — Friends of John A. Bopp Sr., who passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, will be received at the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. The burial will be in the St. Michael's Cemetery.The Bereavement Group of the St. Michael the Archangel Parish will meet at the funeral home at 3 p.m. Friday to conduct a scriptural wake service.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
