Vera White

Vera J. White, 75, of Cowansville died Saturday at ACMH Hospital in Kittanning after a brief illness.

She was born in Worthington, Jan. 5, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Frank W. Roofner and Mary Ellen (Brown) Roofner.

In her early years, she worked at Merchants National Bank as a bookkeeper and at the Worthington Mushroom Farm as a picker.

She was a volunteer at the Worthington Senior Center where she had many friends. Vera was known for her great smile and infectious laugh. Vera enjoyed watching golf and basketball. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Worthington and the New Beginnings Church.

Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Donna and Joe Pistorius of Petrolia; two sons, Fred (Sherry) White of Worthington and Bob White Jr.; and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn McCanna of Carlisle. Vera had five grandchildren, Joe (Jennifer) Pistorius of Butler, Samantha Pistorius of Petrolia, Robert “B.J.” White of Kittanning, Charee White of Worthington and Jessie Wagner of New Kensington; two sisters, Janet (Richard) Keener of Sarver and Maude Anker of Allentown; two brothers, Carl (Vivian) Roofner of Worthington and Edward (Barbara) Roofner of Kittanning; and a sister-in-law, Agnes Roofner of Waynesburg.

She had many nieces and nephews. Vera had two special nieces, Shirley Claypoole of Worthington, who was like a daughter to her, and Susie Lockhart of Texas, who had a special place in her heart.

In addition to her parents, Vera was preceded in death by her son, William “Billy” White in June 1969; her sisters, Emma (Roofner) Smith and Alice (Roofner) Dezort; a brother, Robert Roofner; and a daughter-in-law, Sonia (Tripp) Bullis.

WHITE — Friends of Vera J. White, who died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home, Worthington, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Donald Breghenti officiating.
