STATE COLLEGE — Penn State unveiled a classic look for the uniforms to be worn by its hockey teams in their inaugural season as Division I programs.

The blue-and-white drawstring jerseys feature the Nittany Lions logo on the chest. Names will be worn on the backs of the home white sweaters.

Penn State decided to upgrade its men’s and women’s hockey programs to Division I and build an ice arena after a record $88 million donation in 2010 — since increased to $102 million — by energy company executive Terry Pegula, who now owns the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres.

KANSAS CITY — The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team jumped five places to No. 5 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire Division II national rankings released Tuesday.Slippery Rock was ranked 10th in last week's poll and ranked second in the Atlantic Region behind No. 4 California.Slippery Rock's highest ranking ever was No. 3 in 2007.SRU's men's soccer team broke into the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire Division II national rankings Tuesday for the first time since early in the 2010 season.Slippery Rock, which opened the year 2-0-2, enters the poll at No. 25 this week. The Rock was unranked in the Atlantic Region last week, but moved up to No. 3 in the region in this week's ranks.

LEESBURG, Va. — Slippery Rock University junior punter James McCombie was named Monday as a Beyond Sports Network Division II Athlete of the Week.McCombie, a native of Nicktown, Pa. and graduate of Bishop Carroll High School, earned BSN's Special Teams-Punter honor after he averaged 50 yards per punt on six kicks in last Saturday's loss at Shippensburg University.One of McCombie's punts sailed 60 yards, three traveled 50 or more yards and one was downed inside the Red Raiders' 20-yard line.Last week's effort propelled McCombie to the top of the NCAA Division II punting chart. He is averaging 48.8 yards on nine punts in the first two weeks of the season.
