Gettysburg's Electric Map up for sale

GETTYSBURG — A massive light-up map that illustrates the key moments of the Battle of Gettysburg is up for sale after years of squabbling over its fate.

The 30-by-30-foot Electric Map went up for auction on the General Services Administration site last week. It could be had for $5 as of this morning, with bidding to close Friday.

The auction description may call it “scrap” but the huge topographical map was a longstanding fixture at the battlefield.

Blinking lights illustrating troop movement showed visitors how the defining battle of the Civil War unfolded.

Gettysburg National Historical Park pulled the plug on the map in 2008.

The map's buyer will be responsible for transporting it and dealing with the friable asbestos plaster used to build it.
