Dorothy E. Bowers Brown
Dorothy E. Bowers Brown, 99, of Penn Township, Butler, died Sunday morning at Concordia in Cabot.
Born in Slippery Rock, on April 8, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Hattie Marie Curry.
A graduate of Slippery Rock State Teacher's College in 1935, she married Paul C. Brown, a 1934 Slippery Rock graduate. He was president of Playtime Equipment Corp. in Mars.
She was the beloved mother of Betty Lou Grabe (Donald) of Summerfield, N.C., Jeannette Moyer (Rick) of San Diego, Roberta Paullette Bingham (Leighton) of Penn Township, Charles F. Brown (Kathryn) of Westminster, Md., and Penn Township, and the late Nancy Carol Gillman. She was the grandmother of 12, Bobbi Jo Grabe DeLuca, Andrew James Grabe, Dale Jordon Grabe, Linda Joyce Grabe, Forrest Marshall Brown, Aurora Michelle Brown Sprinca, Andrea Wren Gillman, Daniel Christopher Gillman, Beth Ellen Gillman Brett and Daniel Cheng Moyer, and Kimberly Gayle Bingham and Christopher Scott Bingham. Great grandmother of five, Cody Gillman, Yvette Gillman, Mackenzie Rose Sprincz, Madelyn Nancy Brett and Breauna Lea Grabe.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Samuel Bowers.
Dorothy was the oldest surviving life member of the Mars Chapter 271, Order of the Eastern Star, having served as worthy matron from 1951 to 1952. In addition to private tutoring, Dorothy taught school in Bellevue, Adams Township Elementary, Penn Township junior and senior high schools and retired from Knoch High School in 1978.
She was an active member of the Nixon United Methodist Church and was involved in many community activities. She will always be remembered for her home baked rolls, the best in the country, and she baked them by the tens of dozens and donated them for any worthy cause.
BROWN — Friends of Dorothy E. Bowers Brown, who died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The Mars Chapter 271 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.Services will be in the Nixon United Methodist Church, 334 Airport Road, Butler, at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Bruce Merritt, pastor, officiating. Please meet at the church.
