Virginia A. “Gin” Ramsey, 85, of Chicora passed away peacefully Sunday at the Chicora Medical Center, Chicora, surrounded by her loving family.

Virginia was born in Chicora on Sept. 27, 1926. She was the daughter of James and Cecilia Waltman Collier.

She was a 1945 graduate of Chicora High School and graduated from Butler Business School.

She had been employed as a payroll clerk for Dunmyre Motor Express in Chicora. She also had been employed by Bobbi Brooks and Butler Memorial Hospital, both in Butler.

Virginia was a lifelong member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora, where she belonged to the Christian Mothers and the Altar Society.

“Gin” was an excellent seamstress and was well known for her costume making. She enjoyed playing 500 with her card club. She loved spending time at the family's cottage and being with friends.

Virginia was instrumental in developing the Karns City High School Pie Festival. She was a Karns City High School Band Mother for 12 years, and a Den Mother for the Chicora Cub Scouts.

Gin will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for her zest for life, including her famous Halloween parties and the Christmas Red Ball.

Virginia is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, George “Cork” Ramsey. The couple married on Oct. 21, 1950, at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora.

She also is survived by five children, Michelle Miller and her husband, Rick, of Chicora; George Ramsey and his wife, Gail, of Eldorado, Pa.; Greg Ramsey and his wife, Cheryl, of Butler; Melinda Schultheis and her husband, Louis, of Cabot; and Natalie Terwilliger and her husband, Bill, of Chicora.

In addition, she is survived by 12 grandchildren, Lisa Cramer and her husband, Adam; Brad Ramsey and his wife, Cate; Jason Miller and his wife, Jen; Rachelle Magnani and her husband, Joe; Stephanie Douglass and her husband, Pete; Eric Ramsey and his wife, Briana; and Bryan Ramsey, Aaron Ramsey, Amber and Ryan Schultheis, and Megan and Cory Terwilliger; as well as five great-grandchildren, Haley, Emily, Jude, Gage and Aubrey, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by a brother, Milford “Muss” Collier and two sisters, Florence Donaldson and Lois Collier.

RAMSEY— Friends of Virginia A. “Gin” Ramsey, who died Sunday, July 15, 2012, will be received at the HILE FUNERAL HOME OF CHICORA, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The Rosary will be recited at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, Chicora, with the Rev. Joseph Pudichery, church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.Memorial contributions may be made to the Chicora VFD, P.O.
