PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Public Schools officials say student scores on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment exams have dropped for the first time since the district instituted its “Excellence for All” reforms in 2006.

The district says PSSA math tests showed only 62.4 percent of students were proficient or advanced this year, compared to 66.2 percent a year ago. In reading, the number dropped to 58.8 percent this year from 60.8 percent last year.

HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania's liquor sales agency says certain types of tequila are subject to a voluntary recall because glass particles may be inside the bottles. There are no reports of injuries.The Liquor Control Board said Friday the recall involves the 1800 Tequila brand, particularly the 1.75-liter Silver, Reposado and Coconut varieties.The agency says the bottles' glass stoppers may have been damaged during transportation and handling.
