Keating

William G. Keating, 82, of Cranberry Township, formerly of Virginia and New York, died Tuesday morning at Sunrise of McCandless.

Born in Rome, N.Y., on Sept. 10, 1929, he was the son of the late William G. and Margaret Keating Sr.

Bill was parks and recreation director for Yorktown Heights, N.Y.

He was a graduate of LeMoyne College of Syracuse with a bachelor's degree and got his master's degree in parks and recreation from Cortland University and the University of Illinois.

He was a member of St. Richard's Catholic Church in Gibsonia and a former member of St. Peter and Paul in Virginia. He was a fourth degree in the Knights of Columbus, was in the Dominican Laity, was a lay communion minister and a prison minister, serving communion to inmates.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Ullherr Keating; his second wife, Elizabeth Ettinger Keating; and one sister, Marsha White.

He was the father of Virginia Butterfield and her husband, Allen, of Cranberry Township; the grandfather of Joseph Butterfield (Jen) and Sandra Butterfield; and the great-grandfather of Justin and Julianna Butterfield.

KEATING — Friends of William G. Keating, who died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial in St. Richard's Church, 3841 Dickey Road, Gibsonia, at 11:30 a.m. July 21.Memorials may be made to the West Deer Dog Shelter, 109 E.
