Louis J. “Duke” Rivers, 77, of Butler passed away Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born in Butler, May 1, 1935, he was the son of the late Claude Rivers Sr. and Ella Rodgers Rivers.

He was a pipe fitter for Butler Armco, now AK Steel, retiring in 1990 after 31 years.

Louis was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church and the VFW Post 249.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia Kaczor Rivers. They were married Nov. 28, 1959. Also surviving are two daughters, Marla Rivers Yasinsky of Butler and Susan Rivers of Wexford; two grandchildren, Tyler and Brandon Yasinsky of Butler; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Allen of Butler and Mrs. Louise Emmett, his twin sister, of Butler; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Rivers, who passed away July 13, 1981; eight brothers; and three sisters.

RIVERS — Friends of Louis J. “Duke” Rivers, who passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012, will be received in MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave., Butler, from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Monday with the Rev. James Salberg, pastor of St. Andrews Roman Catholic, officiating. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.Members of the St. Paul Catholic Women and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:35 a.m. Monday at the church to recite the rosary.Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
