Russell E. Garris Jr.
Russell E. Garris, Jr., 82, of Butler passed away Tuesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 13, 1930, in Butler, the son of the late Russell E. Garris Sr. and Dorothy (Curry) Garris.
He had worked for the Butler Eagle and was retired from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Russ was a member of the Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church, the Odd Fellows, the MORA Club, the American Legion 117 and the Meridian Vets Club. He was a past president of the Meridian Volunteer Fire Company.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Surviving are a daughter, Valerie E. (Jeffrey) Graham of Butler; two sons, Larry Ray (Denise Richardson) Garris of Wilkins Township, Pa., and Kevin E. Garris of Butler; four grandchildren, David Garris, Jessica Richardson, Jeffrey Ryan Graham and Alyssa Graham; a sister, Carol Nodge of Greensburg; and a brother, Kenneth Garris of Butler.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal M. Garris, who died April 12, 2011; a granddaughter, Sarah Richardson; and a brother, Ronald Garris.
GARRIS — Friends of Russell E. Garris Jr., who passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012, will be received at Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.Funeral services will be at the Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church, 123 E. Diamond St., Butler, at 11 a.m. Friday with Pastor Don Short officiating.
