Man dies at construction project site

CRANBERRY TWP — The co-owner of an out-of-county construction company missing since Tuesday was found dead Wednesday afternoon in Brush Creek.

Searchers discovered the body of Daniel Joseph Greenland 53, of Woodland, Clearfield County, face down and partially on the bank of the creek near Commonwealth Drive around 4 p.m.

Investigators suspect Greenland, vice president of Greenland Construction of Clearfield, sometime Tuesday had gone into the creek to break up a large beaver dam.

It was not immediately known if he died of a heart attack or some other medical condition, or if he drowned in an unknown accident in the creek.

“From everything at this point,” said Cranberry Township police Lt. Kevin Meyer, “it appears to be a natural death.”

An autopsy Wednesday night found Greenland had signs of heart disease, said Butler County Deputy Coroner Dennis Trzeciak, who pronounced Greenland dead at the scene at 5:30 p.m.

Meyer said police still are awaiting the results of the autopsy.

Investigators said Greenland was in Cranberry this week with a work crew assigned to the infrastructure project.

Township supervisors had awarded Greenland’s family owned firm a $5.6 million contract for the sewage line renovation.
