EPA gives final OK to well water in Dimock, Pa.

DIMOCK, Pa. — Federal regulators said today they’ve completed tests on drinking water in the northeastern Pennsylvania village of Dimock, and that the water is safe to drink.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released a statement saying no further action is necessary in Dimock. The EPA also says that there’s no further need to provide residents with alternative supplies of drinking water.

Some residents of Dimock and anti-drilling groups had claimed that Houston-based Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. polluted the local aquifer with methane and toxic chemicals, and have disputed EPA’s interpretation of the test results.

Cabot did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
