BlueSox lose 6th straight game
RICHMOND, Ind. — The Butler BlueSox lost their sixth consecutive game Sunday in a back-and-forth battle with the East Division-leading Richmond RiverRats.
The RiverRats (11-4) scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to claim a 9-8 lead in the bottom of the eighth and held on for the victory. The BlueSox (9-8) held a 7-4 edge through the top of the fifth, but Richmond tied the game with three runs in the bottom half of the frame. Butler pushed one across in the top of the seventh for a temporary lead.
Tim Haley endured the loss on the mound for the BlueSox, after Brett Sullivan made the start and surrendered six earned runs in five innings of work. Chris Miller claimed the win for Richmond, while Lance Sheets picked up the save. Alex Sroka started on the hill for the RiverRats and gave up seven earned runs in five frames.
Kyle Petty went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer for Butler, while George Roberts, Matt Albaugh, Jason Radwan and Alex Miklos all doubled. Radwan also tallied three RBIs.
Slippery Rock 10, Chillicothe 8 — The Slippery Rock Sliders scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to beat the Chillicothe Paints on Sunday at Critchfield Park.
Radley Haddad tied the game with a two-RBI single, before Trent Wooldridge plated the go-ahead runs with a two-RBI single of his own.
Brent Roerhich claimed the win on the mound for the Sliders (6-11) with two innings of scoreless relief. Luis Flores started for Slippery Rock and went five innings, allowing five runs — three earned — with four strikeouts and two walks.
Wooldridge was 2-for-4 on the night with four RBIs and a run scored. Haddad also went 2-for-4, scored three runs and drove in three. Ryan Abernathy and Alex Lang had multi-hit games for the Sliders, as well.
