Parts of Pittsburgh hit by flash flooding

PITTSBURGH — A flash flood warning is in effect for the Pittsburgh area and parts of southwestern Pennsylvania.

There are reports of people being pulled from flooded cars in some areas, but no reports of injuries.

The National Weather Service says gauges have reported rainfall of more than 2 inches per hour, and that’s caused flooding of streams and low lying areas.

Authorities say the intersections of Routes 51 and 88 and the intersection of Mifflin and Lebanon Roads in Allegheny County flooded, causing heavy traffic delays. By 3 p.m. the floodwaters were receding in some areas.

The warning is in effect until 5 p.m., and a flash flood watch is in effect for most of southwestern Pennsylvania until 8 p.m.
