Robert Kaylor
Robert Kaylor, 91, of Chicora died at 5:20 p.m. Friday at VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler following a lingering illness.
He was born in Chicora, Dec. 27, 1920, the son of the late John J. and Sadie B. McGarvey Kaylor.
He worked for the Fritzmoon Pipe and Tube Co. in East Butler, for the Ultra Penn Refinery in Bruin, known as the “Bruin Lagoon,” and for the National Transit Gas Co. in Chicora. Then he worked for Agway with refrigeration and air conditioning, retiring in 1982.
Bob was a lifelong member of the St. John's Reformed Church, Chicora, serving on the church consistory. He also had served on the Chicora Borough Council.
He served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II in the CO. 328th Infantry Regiment 26 DIV from Aug. 27, 1942, to Jan. 2, 1946, achieving the rank of private.
He belonged to the Chicora VFW and the Chicora American Legion.
He enjoyed hunting and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan. He watched the Pirates and also liked football.
He owned horses and enjoyed harness racing, but his biggest pleasure was his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Iman Kaylor, who he married April 26, 1947; son, John and Chris Kaylor of Chicora; daughter, Kathy and Carl Anderson of Chicora; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Karen Kaylor of Chicora.
Robert is the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Kaylor; brother, John M. Kaylor; and sister, Mary Olive Truscott.
KAYLOR — Visitation for Robert Kaylor, who died Friday, June 15, 2012, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Pistorius officiating.
