Charles Burtner

Charles Keith Burtner, 95, of Butler went to be with the Lord at 10:50 p.m. Saturday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born Aug. 27, 1916, in Jefferson Township to the late Forest Harmon Burtner and Mary Lena (Giles) Burtner.

He worked at ARMCO, now AK Steel, retiring in 1979 after 42 years.

Mr. Burtner was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the 3M's church group and the Asbury Sunday school class.

Keith will be best remembered as a hardworking blacksmith both at ARMCO and in his own business.

He enjoyed building homes with his wife for their family, gardening and church activities. Family was important to Keith, and he especially enjoyed family gatherings.

Mr. Burtner is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary Elizabeth Greer Burtner, who he married Aug. 28, 1940; two sons, Donald C. Burtner and his wife, Kathleen, of Butler and Bruce K. Burtner and his wife, Sue, of Butler; two daughters, Nancy E. Heberling and her husband, Tom, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Janet A. Matusak and her husband, Mike, of Middletown, Ohio; seven grandchildren, David Heberling and his wife, Sharon, of Trenton, Ohio, Deborah Dunham and her husband, Jim, of Amhurst, N.H., Daniel Burtner, Joseph Burtner and his wife, Janet, Michael Burtner and his wife, Janet, Nathan Burtner and his wife, Julie, all of Butler, and Brooke McDeavitt and her husband, Tim, of Butler; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Hey and her husband, Tim, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Andrew (AJ) Dunham of Nashua, N.H., Anna Root and her husband, Matt, of Trenton, Ohio, Brad Heberling of Richland, Wash., and Anthony Burtner of Butler.

Keith was one of 17 children and is survived by four brothers, Roger Burtner of Brady, Texas, Vernon Burtner of Marionville, Mo., Wendell Burtner of N. Chili, N.Y., and Harry Burtner of Butler; three sisters, Joyce Trumbauer of Elkhart, Ind., Mary Frances Boggs of Butler and Marilyn Glasgow of Butler; and also by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.

BURTNER — Friends of Charles Keith Burtner, who passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012, will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., Butler, with the Rev. Patricia Nelson and Tom Holman of the First United Methodist Church officiating. The burial will be in the Summit Presbyterian Church Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 200 E.
