STATE COLLEGE — A mural artist said he is not removing Joe Paterno from a mural near the Penn State campus.

Michael Pilato said Thursday he has no immediate plans to take the late Penn State coach or former university president Graham Spanier out of the huge downtown “Inspiration” mural.

Pilato said Paterno is part of Penn State history.

Former FBI director Louis Freeh alleges that Paterno, Spanier and two other top Penn State officials buried sex-abuse claims against former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky in order to protect the school and the football program.

Pilato has already removed Sandusky from the mural.
