Louise S. Humphrey

Louise S. Humphrey, 98, of Longwood, Fla., formerly of New Castle, died Sunday, April 8, 2012.

She was the daughter of James J. Studebaker and Jessie M. Gilfillan.

Though she lived most of her life in the New Castle area, she was a resident of Longwood, Fla., for 25 years. After graduating from Har-Brack High School, Tarentum, with honors, she received a bachelor's degree from Westminster College, New Wilmington.

She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She was an elementary teacher of English, speech and drama for 38 years and a directing teacher for Slippery Rock University. She was active in various organizations of the Presbyterian Church and an officer in the Woman's Club.

She was the very cooperative wife who fully supported her husband, Ralph C. Humphrey, who predeceased her, in his many and various activities. Though she had no children of her own, she inspired and motivated her school children by her love for and interest in them.

She is survived by a niece, Sarah Carlin Roe and a nephew, Charles C. Carlin, the children of her sister, Sarah Studebaker Carlin Messer (deceased); a niece, Susan S. Ellinger and nephews, James W. Studebaker, Mark A. Studebaker and J. David Studebaker, the children of her brother, John C. Studebaker (deceased) and Jane Studebaker; and her loving companions, Patricia Herron and Tara Clark.

HUMPHREY — A service for Louise S. Humphrey, who died Sunday, April 8, 2012, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, at the Zion Baptist Church, 148 Currie Road, Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Thomas Meling, pastor of the church, presiding.Arrangements are being handled by Smith Funeral Home, Slippery Rock.
